The worst

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hands down, the worst site in terms of not being able to do what it's set up to do. I don't send that many ecards but when I do, I end up wasting a lot of time trying to wade through the menus to select, edit and add a gift only to get to the end to receive a message that says the site is experiencing problems and to check back later. Not a good reply if you're trying to send a card THAT DAY. I've continued to be a customer in spite of that until today when I tried to send my son an ecard. It's less frustrating to go to a store, pick out a card and mail it with a stamp.

American Greetings fraudulent cancellation process

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

American Greetings makes it impossible to cancel a subscription. Purchasing a subscription is quite easy on the web but cancelling it is impossible.

I wanted to use the service for one or two months but now I can't cancel it yet the website states you can cancel at anytime.

This is fraudulent due to the fact that you cannot cancel on the web and when I call them there is no record of my e-mail address so I cannot cancel through an automated phone system. Also they only accept calls Monday through Friday during business hours but the wait times are so long that if you have a regular full time job it is impossible to stay on the phone for that long.

Won't let you cancel - free trial is a scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I signed up for the 7 day free trial. Of course, it asks you for a form of payment so that they can auto-bill you at the end of 7 days.

They say that you can cancel at any time, but that really isn't true, as I discovered. If you attempt to cancel suing their automated system, once you go through the prompts, it says that you need to speak with an agent. This isn't uncommon by itself -- many companies try to have someone try to talk you out of cancelling, and answer the phone immediately and offer concessions, etc., to try to keep you as a customer. However this is NOT the case with American Greetings.

Quite the opposite, they just keep you on hold and hope you give up. This is effectively fraud -- they promise a "free trial" and say that it can be cancelled at any time, but they do not provide any reasonable mechanism to cancel the service.

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH AMERICAN GREETINGS IF YOU EVER WANT TO CANCEL THE SERVICE! If anything, use one of the newer services that frankly works much better and has better customer service like JibJab.

I think I've been scammed too. I thought I canceled before being charged and just noticed I've been being charged $4.99/mo for the past six months! I kept no records of canceling, and there is no email verifying I canceled, so I think I am crazy as I honestly don't remember...but I must have because I did not want to pay $4.99/mo!

I 100% agree. I am going through it now!

I found an automatic charge to my checking account, made on the 7th of December, and , seeing that this less than the required 30 day notice, I demand that it be removed, and that any membership, with your company, was an inadvertent mistake, as I rarely send an E Card these days, and haven't in in a long time, so I also demand that any membership, that I was tricked into, be terminated, or the next notification to you, will come directly from the consumer protection board, in the New York State Attorney Generals Office, and you'll not doubt never be able to do business with anyone from this state ever again, as they will terminate your licence to operate in this state again. New York State does not tolerate this kind of business practice, especially When Your Dealing With The Elderly, Living In Assisted Living Complexes, And Who Are Trying To Get By, On Small Fixed Incomes.

AM Greetings charges

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I keep being charged 3.99 month, for months! I called AM Greetings, gave the information from the cc and because I could not remember the phone number tied to the account they would not do a thing. I am so tired of these companies doing this. Verizon is another, being charged 2 times, 2 days apart for the exact amount and they have no record.

Charged for $3.99 monthly membership for 7 months

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was charged $27 for an online membership that I never signed up for. This amount was charged $3.99/month for 7 months before I realized that American Greetings was charging my bank account each month.

When I told American Greetings I did not sign up for the account they did not care and would not offer any type of refund. Do not use American Greetings for anything as they will continue to charge you repeatedly without notice. Stay away!!!!!!!

Since I also have to fill this box up with 100 words I would also like to say the customer service there is horrible.

Failure to live up to its promise for eCard delivery to mobile phones

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
For years AmericanGreetings.com has advertised that it has the ability to deliver eCards to mobile phones. For a while it actually did, however for an extended period of time now (years), it has failed to live up to that promise. It's site has the ability to filter on Mobile eCards, however the ONLY options currently in place is eMail or Facebook for these selections. Searching their help regarding sending to phones generates text which indicates that because of a problem some cards don't allow the "send to Mobile" option. If it's not an option then the card doesn't support it. This is a situation that is apparently not temporary however since it's now existed on their site for years. If you do a search on "send to Mobile" you will find a very small subset of cards and even these cards don't allow you the option of sending to Mobile. So it appears that there are no real options to send any AmericanGreeting card to any mobile phone. Complaints to their service desk result in no response.

Site does not work for e-cards

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
American Greetings web site does not send e-cards reliably. When trying to send associates e-greeting cards, site says card violates "terms of agreement" but not what terms or it says the recipient email is incorrect when I have successfully corresponded with the address in the past on other sites. I don't know how I can violate the terms of the agreement when I pick a template provided by them, add a greeting note and type in the email address of the recipient. Other site notice for why it did not send the e-greeting card was the recipient's email was incorrect. I have sent them emails via other carries successfully using the same email address. What a waste of money in subscribing.

Don't sign up for "free" trial....they will charge you anyway.

I signed up for the so called free trial but was charged anyway. I cancelled my membership within the required time frame, yet my account was still charged. When I called to speak with someone I had to figure out a work around (I finally pressed 6) to get through to an actual live human being because the automated system could not locate my account. The system even disconnected me at least 3 times because it could not understand or find my name. When I finally got through to a person, after being on hold for about 3 minutes, she doubted that I had received any correspondence confirming my cancellation. I had to read it to her and offer to send it before she put me on hold to confer with her manager. After a lengthy hold, she finally came back on the line with a confirmation number and the assurance that my account had been refunded. She apologized and asked if there was anything else she could do. I suggested she let management know how horrible their phone tree is and that it could definitely be improved. I thanked her and assured her that I would never do business with American Greetings again.

Resolved: Impossible to cancel the unauthorized renewal charge

Updated by user Apr 10, 2015

Well that was quick! I called the actual company, not the telephone # on the website and talked to a fellow who had this suggestion.....call the automated # and select that you want to begin a new membership!

Of course...that gets you right to an actual person who is there to sign up new

people. But, that service rep. is actually able to cancel the unauthorized automatic renewal and did so politely and efficiently. Be sure you get a confirmation number.

It will take approx.

3 business days for the charge to be reversed from your credit card account.

When you call, it helps if you have your membership/customer ID# which can be found on the website with your profile information.

Why AG does not include an option on their automated menu to speak to someone, usually effected by most other companies, by simply punching in "0" is beyond me and if it hadn't been for the suggestion from the actual company to access a person through the new subscription option, I'd still be floundering about and totally annoyed. Hope this helps!

Original review Apr 10, 2015
American Greetings states, they will email a pre notice for automatic renewal. No notice of intent to automatically renew was received and that was after I had cancelled the subscription in early 2015. However, they went right ahead and charged my credit card for another year, even though I had specifically cancelled. The website is a farce, no way to send comments or ask for information and the phone number given does not connect to anything other than an automated menu. Once they charge your card, even if erroneously, there is no way to either speak to someone or to email them to correct their error. THIS IS A RIP OFF PERPETUATED TO KEEP YOU ON THEIR ROLES FOREVER! BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!

Online Payments Scam

I signed up for a valentines e card. And began to notice monthly debits I went on several times to cancel but there are no options to cancel the account without calling. Further to frustration is that when you do call its an automated system that and tells you that your membership has been cancelled no tracking number, no customer support and no where on the website to hit cancel membership to assure the cancellation process. Apparently the card business is not an profitable industry in itself they now have to highly frustrate the few customers who wanted to purchase a card. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else to buy a card. By the time you actually cancel you have bought multiple cards. Terrible business practice ...

You can always cancel membership or have charges refunded

Updated by user Jun 07, 2015

As of today (June 7th 2015- a month later) I was not charged a cent.

There were problems using their service. I tried on a weekend (May 9th within the trial period) and spent at least 2 hours trying to send a single card, eventually gave up, didn't succeed to send it and got all kind of annoying error messages.

Tried to call their customer service, they work only weekdays (???). Cancelled membership immediately (sent email) and that was the ONLY thing positive about this company: membership was cancelled and I wasn't charged for anything.

Original review May 08, 2015
I just wanted to try the membership, but first I googled the company's name. After reading all those stories I called my credit card company (AMEX) to find out in advance what can I do to avoid those to happen. I was told by the rep that: 1- At any time I can call them and tell them to block this merchant and from this moment on, no charges will be made to my card. 2- In case I will have unauthorized charge(s) I can call the AMEX card and dispute those charges. Then AMEX will reverse those charges (refund my money). I am going right now to try the membership. If I will have any problems with them I will write here back an update.

AMERICAN GREETINGS---STILL CHARGING MY ACCOUNT

I signed on for a one month trial membership in December 2015, they charged me twice in January 2015, and have continued charging me in February, March and April. I requested a refund only to be told a one month trial membership automatically is converted to a monthly deduction.  No where is made clear when you sign up for their services.  This is a very deceptive practice and legal action should be taken to prevent this company of doing anymore of their shady operations. I will check for any more illicit charges and will contact my credit card company.
