Has anyone been successful in stopping their petty theft?

I was checking my PayPal statement the other day and, lo and behold, there was a 19.99 charge from American Greetings. I signed up last year in order to send a bereavement card to a friend, and maybe used it one or two other times.

It had not been apparent to me that this was an auto-renew, and so I requested PayPal to decline the transaction. They said they were unable to, as it had been a previously agreed upon transaction. So I went looking deeper into their site and found that you had to go in and select an Opt Out button. I did that.

The terms stated that if you do that within 30 days of the transaction, you are entitled to a refund.

I have tried connecting with them several times, but I have been able to get any response. Based on what I’m seeing here, I’m doubtful that I’ll receive the refund and concerned that the Opt Out may not work.

Everyone should BEWARE of signing up for this company.

so easy to navigate website before you decided "to improve it". so not. the person who redesigned this website had no concept/no understanding of what was required. you wasted a boatload of money paying this inept person. expect a response. the error not only lies with the designer it also lies with the person/persons who approved it. totally disgusted...... my suggestion.............fix it. need 100 words. here goes. made an error improvement in website, idiot move, so not navigable, so confusing, so not thought-out by designer. did I hit 100 words yet? OK, not. have always found it so easy to send a card to family and friends for special occasions. not anymore. again, what were you thinking? let's see if I hit 100 yet.

Sent a card 3-29 to be delivered 4-1---never delivered

Birthday card never received by the recipient so I re-sent the next day and it was still never received. Have sent to her many times and picked the address from the address in your file. Either send the card or cancel my membership. I have always enjoyed the ease of looking at the cards online and scheduling the delivery dates but there are several other options offered now and if I can't depend on the cards from you being delivered as requested, then I will simply cancel my membership. I would hate to do this but it is embarrassing for someone to not get a greeting the day they should. Thank you for your time.

I tried over a dozen times to cancel my membership via their automated system. I am from the midwest and have no accent and clear annunciation. Their phone system is deliberately set up to not be able to understand the spelling of your last name - and just why would they require you to announce your last name? Besides the phone number and zip code, why not ask for your ID number that was assigned by American Greetings? That way you could enter it using a keypad. Shame on You! I liked the card I sent and had even considered keeping a membership. Not anymore - I will never use again! So now it's a Saturday and I have 7 days to cancel, which is tomorrow on a Sunday. Their customer service is only available to speak to a live person M-F. Really!!!!

The last five gift cards I purchased over the last 2 years - my credit card was fully charged - had $0 balance when the recipient went to the restaurant. That meant they had to pay cash for their meal after they drove to and from then had to return again once American Greetings issued them a new gift card.

This is a total scam! Last fall, I purchased the Omaha Steak delivery for my father. The package was not delivered when scheduled and 48 hours later, my mother found a box outside her garage in 100 degree Texas heat. Inside was a fully thawed steak that had to be thrown out.

American Greetings did nothing.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON PURCHASING ANY OF THE GIFT CARDS THROUGH AMERICAN GREETINGS. DO IT DIRECTLY THROUGH THE RETAILER.

Same thing just happened to me. Received a $50 gift card and when I got to the restaurant it had a $0 balance and I had to pay for my meal. Can’t find anyone to take responsibility or fix the issue

Trying to Cancel

Apparently I am one of many who inadvertantly joined American Greetings E card. I am being billed $27.99 every couple of months.

I have sent several emails over the last year with no response. Do not know who to call. To my knowledge I have never used this service. I do not even know how to access the account or how to use it if I wanted to.

I am at fault for not thoroughly reading my bank statement. I kept thinking that the error would be discovered and my money would be refunded. I am know going to call my bank and attempt to stop these payments.

I was having similar difficulties cancelling my free trial like you all have. The simple solution was to add my phone number to my personal information on the website. I didn't enter this originally because it's optional (and who wants to voluntarily give out extra information?). Once this was entered, I called the automated number. This time when I entered my phone number, the system immediately recognized me and dropped my membership. I will of course monitor my credit card statement to make sure nothing fishy is going on. If that happens, then I'll be back to write a scathing review. At this point, things appear to be resolved! Good luck.

Sneaky illegal

In May of this year I decided to take advantage of a free trial of a greeting card to a friend. It was easy enough to do as there was little to it.

Later I noticed a charge for $4.99 I did not dispute it although it was supposed to be free. $4.99 won't kill me. Today I noticed another such charge and in checking found out it was the third one that had been withdrawn from my account. At no time was I advised I was signing up for a membership charging a monthly fee.

I might expect such from a shyster website but not American Greeting Cards. In calling I was unable to reach a human being but did select cancel membership. I have no idea if that will stop it or not. The giving of my credit card number I assumed was to pay for any future cards I might want.

In hundreds of purchases over the internet, I have never one time had a charge made without a following notification of the amount, etc. until this one.

And to not know it was going to be every month is beyond belief. That is why I am sure they are crooked as can be.

AM Greetings Recurring Charge FRAUD

Same problem everyone else here complaining about - a supposed free offer that ends up costing $4.99 per month with no way to cancel. A frustrating phone call where they assured us they would cancel did not work, and we were charged again the next month!

Free Trial is a Scam that Cannot be Cancelled

Like many others have noted, the free trial is a scam. You cannot cancel online, and though you are supposed to be able to cancel automatically over the phone you cannot do that either.

You effectively cannot cancel without speaking to a sales representative. I reported them to the BBB - their automated over-the-phone system INTENTIONALLY DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO CANCEL. It uses a voice detection system to identify the phone number, ZIP code and last name associated with the account; the system works perfectly, no matter how you mumble, with the numbers, but mysteriously gums up and stops working with letters for names.

Even if you manage to get your last name correct (I called 15 times before I was able to manage this), it then states that you don't have an account. A scam, pure and simple, and one that deserves an investigation from consumer protection bureaus.

American Greetings is an unscrupulous company

Though I ordered one card on line from American Greetings in August of 2016, I discovered I have been charged $4.99 monthly beginning August 2016 through today, March 2017. They have been withdrawing $4.99 per month from my credit card without notification, other than a transaction on my credit card account. They claim that I became a member when I made a purchase in 2016, by filling in my billing information. Warning to anyone who reads this -- Be aware that you are signing up for a lifetime membership, with a monthly fee. I have managed to get them to credit my account for 6 of the 9 months I paid for. I spoke with two people on the membership staff. It was clear from my conversations that this is a daily occurrence for the customer service staff.

Charged CC for print at home, can't login

This company automatically bills your credit card every year, but you can't log in to the website to use it. I had this service for several years without much problem. They charged my credit card for automatic renewal. When I went to the website, it said I must reset my password. Entered the email address in the automatic rest option and never got the promised immediate response. I tried again and again with the same result. I then used their contact form to file a complaint. Again, days passed without receiving a reply. You cannot use the password reset to get a response email and the company will not respond to complaints. They are simply greedy bastards with a useless service.
